Safe work procedures

We develop dovetailed procedures that bring safety effectively to the feet on the ground. We can work with your existing health and safety program… or build new procedures from the ground up.

Effective safe work procedures clearly provide information on necessary communications, emergency medical response, mitigation of hazards, and rescue plans.

Your safe work procedures are the nuts and bolts of your day-to-day operations, and one of your strongest layers of defence in the face of a rapidly-evolving H&S landscape. We explore this concept more fully in this article; How Your Rescue Guidelines Shape Industry Standards. Make the most of your safe work procedures by developing them alongside Raven Safety experts.

Raven Safety delivers a full range of documentation for all of the disciplines we instruct, including:

Our courses provide the knowledge and skills necessary to perform jobs safely and efficiently whether you are a supervisor of personnel who work in confined spaces; someone who works in confined spaces; or a confined space worker who is also tasked with the rescue of colleagues from this high risk environment.

Our courses are NFPA 1670 and 1006 compliant and meet ANSI and CSA Standards as well as provincial OHS regulations.

They also satisfy EOCP continuing education credits in British Columbia.

The level of training you need depends on how close you get to the water in the course of your work.

The standard training levels are:

1.  Awareness (more than 10’ from water)
2.  Operations (within 10’ of water)
3.  Technician (in or on water)

Read our FAQ about the definition of moving water to learn whether you work in flatwater, or swiftwater.

Whether you work, supervise, or rescue in tower environments, our courses will prepare you to operate safely and effectively. The progression of training provided through these courses ensures that participants reaching the Competent Climber & Rescue level are thoroughly equipped to perform at the highest standard.

We don’t teach public, open-enrollment tower courses, so contact us for more information on how to set up a course for your group.  Please note: clients must provide their own towers or coordinate all requirements for access to a tower owned by a third party.

Our courses are consistent with the NATE Tower Climber Fall Protection Training Standard.

Regardless of the boat or the water, our approach will give you the confidence and skills needed to operate your boat in a safe, efficient manner. Training can be geared to in boards or outboards, propellor or jetboat engines, or any non-motorized watercraft.

A Note on Transport Canada Certifications

Our courses do not replace or include Transport Canada certifications (PCOC or SVOP, MED A3 etc.) required to operate boats for work. You obviously need the relevant Transport Canada certification in order to be compliant, but given that these courses are entirely theoretical (ie. you never get in a boat), we believe you should also have one of our practical, hands-on courses in order to learn how to operate a real boat on real water. Confused as to which certification you need? Chances are it’s only a PCOC. Click here to find out which Transport Canada certification you need.

We don’t teach public, open-enrollment boat handling courses, but the minimum number of participants for a private course is only four, so contact us for more information on how to set up a course for your group.  Please note: clients must provide their own watercraft.

All documentation incorporates relevant standards, legislation and laws.
