Overview

This 3-day Wilderness First Aid For Field Services course was designed in cooperation with Environment Canada to address the specific needs of field personnel and others who work in remote locations, where resources may be less than adequate, and evacuation to a hospital is hours away.

This course is ideal for personnel in natural resource management, exploration, mining, and industry. The curriculum covers ice safety and rescue skills and knowledge tailored to field environments, including those who work in pairs or small teams.

The course includes Adult CPR certification.

The curriculum includes consideration of government and industrial guidelines for providing first-aid in remote workplaces.

Prerequisites
  • 18+ years of age
  • A high school education (or equivalent) is recommended but not required

Recertification

Repeat the entire course every three years

Required Equipment
  • Notebook and pencil/pen
  • Watch with a second-hand for taking vitals
  • Indoor/outdoor clothing appropriate to the weather
  • Footwear for rough terrain
